With wedding season upon us, your dear MOH and bridesmaids are probably getting their heads together and beginning to plan the anticipated bachelorette party. For those who have not yet planned a bachelorette party, they may have a few questions lingering in their heads, like “what exactly is a bachelorette party?”, “who is invited to this party?”, or “what should the theme be?”
Well, a bachelorette party is a get-together to honour the bride, celebrate their friendship and her upcoming married life. It is attended by your bridal party and the closest female family and friends. Some may even invite their mothers. It is meant to be a bonding experience.
When planning a bachelorette party, remember that this should be all about the bride. Take into account her style, hobbies and interests. Also, think of what you all have shared together as friends. This will help in creating theme that will be memorable for her and for the bridal party too.
Here’s a few tips when planning a bachelorette –
- Get the entire bridal party involved. Compile the bridal party’s ideas for themes.
- Once the theme is decided, create your budget. Include all expenses – invitations, meal, rentals party favour, travel expenses (if it is out-of-town). This budget should include the cost for the bride-to-be. Don’t forget, she is the “Guest of Honour”!
- Evenly delegate a task or two and the cost of the party amongst the entire bridal party. This always minimizes conflict.
Stumped on a theme idea? Here are some party ideas that might be a fun choice, based on the bride-to-be’s style, hobbies & interests!
Sporty Bride
If you have a bride-to-be who is into sports, you can plan a night watching her favorite team play, either in the arena or stadium or watch it at home and have some food catered in. As a souvenir, you can give her a “sports memorabilia” to mark the day!
Fitness Buff Bride
A great party idea for your fitness-loving bride-to-be is to attend a wellness retreat. Now being offered at selected hotels, you can participate in fun workouts, spa treatments, and down time at the beach. An alternative for those on a tight budget could be to sign up & participate in a Colour Run! The bride-to-be and bridal party wear white running gear and at each kilometer, you’re sprayed with 100% safe colour dust and by the end, you’re covered in a different array of colour hues. Makes for fun memories and awesome photos!
Nature-loving Bride
If your bride-to-be loves the outdoors, you can organize a “Glamping Retreat”. Set-up tent at a nearby campsite or rent cabins for a weekend away in the great outdoors! Go on a hike, do some outdoor group yoga, ride a canoe as a group, build a campfire, play fun bachelorette games, make s’mores and chat till the sun comes out!
Wine Enthusiast Bride
Rather than being in a crowded club or bar, take your party on the road and plan a wine tasting tour! Instead of taking a commercial coach bus or separate vehicles to your destination, rent a limo to your destination. Plot several stops, take lots of photos, and end your day with dinner with the ladies at a vineyard, paired with a glass of wine, of course!
Thrill Seeking Bride
Does your bride-to-be love adventure and a good adrenaline rush? If so, take the opportunity to try something new and plan a day to go zip lining, parasailing or bungee jumping! Another alternative could be to plan a day out to an amusement park, like Canada’s Wonderland or make a road trip out of it and visit Six Flags!
Budget Bride
For those on a budget, the perfect way to celebrate your bride and her upcoming big day is to kick it old school and throw a classic slumber party! Complete the night with some chick flicks, lots of junk food, manicures, pedicures, and bachelorette party approved drinking games! An idea to make things more crafty and fun, you could also have everyone buy and bring a set of lingerie and decorate it with different sequins and embellishments to gift to the bride.
These are just some ideas and examples to help kick start your planning. When planning a bachelorette party, don’t be afraid to be unique, step outside of the box and in some cases, be a little extreme! These days only come once! No matter how simple or extravagant your event is, remember that there is always one goal and that is to celebrate the bride, your friendship and to make her feel absolutely special. Now, let the planning begin!
